As we age, our needs will slowly begin to change. Our bodies, for example, will be unable to cope with some of the tasks that we took for granted when we were young, such as preparing meals and even using the toilet. With the right aged care supplies on hand, however, we can ensure that the new needs of the elderly are looked after with the utmost care.
- Make sure that you speak with the elderly people in your home or facility to gauge exactly what their needs are. Some people might still be quite able bodied, whilst others require a wheelchair.
- Encourage the elderly to perform daily tasks using the supplies that you have provided. This might be a handrail in the bathtub or in the kitchen that they can grip onto should they need support.
- Make sure that you understand which areas of the elderly person’s life require attention and which areas they are still happy with; don’t go interfering in areas where you are not wanted.
- Regularly check on the elderly person to determine whether their needs have changed. Whilst they may not need a handrail in the bathroom now, they may need one or two in the next 6 months.
